National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences (KUAS) (Taiwan)

Established in 1963, KUAS has developed from a junior college to a leading University of Science and Technology in southern Taiwan. We employ over 500 experienced and enthusiastic faculty and staff. They share the belief that the student is the most important person on campus. The number of our students has exceeded 10,000. With high-quality programs in the fields of engineering, commerce and management as well as humanities and social sciences, we help prepare our students for the competition they need to face in the job market. The programs are designed to meet the demands of the students. They can take full-time undergraduate or graduate programs, attend classes in the evenings or at weekends to improve their professional skills.

Stressing the integration of theory and practice, the faculty of KUAS has been devoted to research and worked closely with the industry. More than ten research centers have been set up to enhance the development of technology and explore current economic issues. To follow the trend of globalization, KUAS has been active in forming partnerships with international educational institutions. Consequently, both the faculty and the students gain valuable experience by interacting with their fellow researchers and students from other countries. Through international cooperation and cultural exchanges, KUAS not only upgraded its academic quality but has shared its experience with colleagues from all over the world.

Mission and goals of KUAS are:

  • teaching and developing applied sciences as well as practical skills by integrating theory with practice and technology with the study of humanities;
  • training professionals in engineering, business, and humanities to help boost local and national development.
  • providing technical services and opportunities for professional training to meet the demands of the industry.
  • designing life-long educational programs to serve the community.
  • encouraging research on the theory and practice of technology via the establishment of research centers.
  • to become a world-class university of science and technology.

Warmed by the bright sunlight of South Taiwan, in the possession of a beautiful beach and a magnificent port, KUAS provides a convenient living environment. Two campuses of KUAS cover 287 acres, the first campus is 25 acres and the second is 262 acres. The former is located in the Northeast of Kaohsiung City, a prosperous urban business district. Nearby, there are department stores, post offices, supermarkets, restaurants, city library, Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, and National Science and Technology Museum. The campus is located a 10-minute ride away from the railway station and 20 minutes from the Kaohsiung International Airport. The second campus under construction in Kaohsiung County is a 20 minute ride away.

Having celebrated its 40th anniversary, KUAS will keep its commitment to provide top-quality education to students and best service to the community in the coming years.
