Professor Tuan V. Nguyen

Dr. Nguyen is a Senior Fellow of the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council, and head of a research group specializing in the genetics and epidemiology of osteoporosis at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, Sydney, Australia. He is also a Professor of the UNSW Medicine, University of New South Wales.  Dr. Nguyen is a prominent scientist in the international osteoporosis research community through his research and professional contributions. He has published more than 200 original papers in premier journals in the world, including New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Annals of Internal Medicine, British Medical Journal, Lancet, Nature, Nature Genetics, Nature Review Endocrinology, JBMR, JCEM. His total citations amounted to 15,000 (as at 28/2/2013). Dr Nguyen has contributed to the profession through his services in journal editorial boards. He has served on the Publication Committee of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (2008-2012). Currently, he is on the editorial board of prestigious journals such as the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, Osteoporosis International, and Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, and associate editor of BMC Musculoskel Disorders.  He is a regular reviewers for more than 20 medical and bone journals in the world. He also contributed to grant review for many funding agencies around the world, including NHMRC, Wellcome Trust, NIH, Elan (Germany), Israel, Scotland, The Netherlands, Hong Kong. He reviewed professorship applications for the UCLA and UCSD, and reviewed PhD thesis for the University of Sydney, University of Queensland, Griffith University, University of Tasmania, Karolinska (Sweden), Maastricht University, and University of Jyvaskyla (Finland). He is instrumental in the establishment of Strong Bone Asia, a major osteoporosis forum in Asia.

Dr. Nguyen has collaborated with many colleagues in Vietnam in osteoporosis research and research training. During the past 10 years, he has given lectures in more than 20 workshops, seminars, and symposia in various universities and major hospitals throughout Vietnam. His summer training courses in statistics and research methodology have been well received by thousand of colleagues in Vietnam. He has published 12 books in Vietnam, and his latest book in scientific writing is one of the best sellers. His book in scientific research has won the Good Book Prize 2013. He has been awarded Meritorious Commendation from the Vietnamese Foreign Minister, People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, and the Medical Society of Ho Chi Minh City.
